France attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir came close to joining Liverpool in 2018 before the move fell through and he has since left Lyon for Real Betis.
The Reds were on the verge of agreeing a £52.75m deal for the player, as reported by BBC, before pulling out of the move because of concerns about a sustained knee injury, according to The Telegraph.
This week, the 26-year-old told L’Equipe that “lies were told” and “an excuse needed to be found” about the botched transfer, with @AnfieldWatch relaying the story to its Twitter followers.

According to L’Equipe, Fekir said that he had gone for a medical check-up at France’s training base in Clairefontaine and no concerns were raised about his knee, adding that he had undergone a medical at Liverpool before the move collapsed.
Liverpool instead signed Alisson for £66.9m and Xherdan Shaqiri for £13.5m after the planned Fekir deal ended.
