Liverpool: Fans react to report that Xherdan Shaqiri’s departure from Anfield as inevitable

Lots of Liverpool fans have had their say on the latest report suggesting that midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri’s departure from Anfield is “inevitable”.

The 28-year-old joined the club from Stoke City for £13m in 2018 and established himself as a reliable asset for the Reds, even if regularly off the bench, as his late brace against Manchester United during his side’s 3-1 win last season was a key part of his rise to success on Merseyside. Still, after scoring six goals in 24 appearances in his first season, the following season has not been as successful for him.

Shaqiri has only taken part in six Premier League outings during the current campaign, playing just 174 minutes combined, as per TransferMarkt. The Swiss winger has suffered two calf injuries this season, the more serious of which kept him out for more than two months. As a result, the Liverpool Echo suggested that a parting of the ways in the summer seems inevitable. These Reds supporters were sad to hear the news and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he was “absolutely gutted” and described him as a humble player.
