Liverpool fans have loved this season thus far, sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League after just 13 games.
They’ve been starved of domestic success for so long, last winning the title in 1990, before the inception of the Premier League.
One of the stars of their barren period was Xabi Alonso, making up a formidable midfield alongside Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano that made them a force in the Champions League.
The Spaniard was a goalscorer in the 2005 final as the Reds famously came from 3-0 down against AC Milan to claim their fifth European crown.
Alonso went on to win a number of trophies at Real Madrid and eventually Bayern Munich before retiring in 2017.
He remains one of the most popular Liverpool players of the modern era, largely due to sensational strikes in his own half against Newcastle and Luton.
