Liverpool will spend the night 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 2-1 victory over Brighton at Anfield this afternoon.
Two goals from Virgil van Dijk had the Reds in a comfortable position at half-time before two notable incidents altered the course of the game.
With 15 minutes remaining, goalkeeper Alisson was sent off for handling the ball outside his penalty area. Shortly after the Brazilian’s dismissal, Lewis Dunk’s quick free kick caught substitute ‘keeper Adrian off guard to halve the deficit for Brighton. [via Sky Sports]
Having extended Liverpool’s run of matches without a clean sheet to 12, the Seagulls then laid siege to the home side’s goal in the final 10 minutes, with Adrian called upon to make a quick double save from Aaron Mooy and Pascal Gross as the Reds eventually got over the line with three points.
Astonishingly, this was Liverpool’s fourth 2-1 win in their last five Premier League matches and their seventh out of 14 games in the division in 2019/20. [via TransferMarkt]
