Liverpool’s last-gasp winner against Aston Villa put them firmly in the Premier League driving seat going into Sunday’s crunch match against Man City at Anfield. Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t won there since 2003 but they need a win to claw back their 6-point deficit.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain started in both the Champions League game against Genk and the Carabao Cup game against Arsenal recently and scored three goals all from outside the box. He came on against Aston Villa with 25 minutes to go, 1-0 down, and added more urgency to their attack their too, which was noted by fansite This is Anfield who said: “It was really only after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came on that the midfield became a true part of the attack.” He’s certainly putting his name in the picture for a start in what could be the biggest game of the season.
Liverpool fans agree too. They took to Twitter after Sadio Mane’s 94th-minute goal to vent just how important it is that Oxlade-Chamberlain starts next weekend. He scored from outside the box in the same fixture during the 2017/18 season, and fans think he has the ability to win the game for them again.

And it’s obvious that Ox needs to start next week against City alongside Fabinho & Gini. But Klopp won’t drop Hendo because he’s captain even though hes not playing well. Also, Gomez should take Lovrens place at the back but we all know none of this will happen #LFC

Surely getting to the point now where the lack of creativity is going to start costing us. Time for ox to be introduced to the starting team, just behind the front 3. He could be the difference

Liverpool are loosing against Utd. Klopp brings on ox and Liverpool are back in the game.
Liverpool are losing against Villa. Klopp brings on ox and Liverpool score two goals and win the game.
Surely he has to start 👀 pic.twitter.com/Lz6D4CzJN1

Absolutely robbed that one. Klopps loyalty to Henderson and gini has to end with that game zero creativity. Ox has to start week in week out after that #AVLLIV

Ox need to start against Man City next week #AVLLIV

I absolutely agree with you there. Ox clearly changed that midfield with his piercing passes and runs. Good to see how he’s picking up his rhythm again. Surely must start next week. https://t.co/UIh6VLcaW8
