The spectre of defeat in the Champions League final was still hanging over Liverpool when the club signed Fabinho in May 2018, just two days after losing to Real Madrid in Kiev.
The Brazil midfielder made 41 appearances in his first season at Anfield and has started three of the Reds’ first four Premier League games this term.

Having started only 21 Premier League matches last season, Fabinho wasn’t a constant presence in the team in this first year at Anfield.
However, he has earned plenty of praise for his recent performances, with Gerard Brand of Sky Sports noting how he has provided “a powerful, cool hand at the base of midfield” and Ross Chandley of The Redmen TV saying that he “might not be full of flair but his role shouldn’t go underestimated“.
