James Pearce believes that Liverpool’s failure to sign Timo Werner could be beneficial for the growth of Takumi Minamino.
In a recent feature for The Athletic, the LFC journalist has analysed Sunday’s Merseyside derby, including the former RB Salzburg man’s performance.
Minamino played just 45 minutes against Everton before being brought off for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Despite earning a Sofascore rating of 6.5, Pearce thinks that the Japan international showcased his ability to “drift inside and operate in central areas”.

However, a lot of fans don’t agree with this take, particularly the notion of not signing Werner being a positive thing for the club. Of course, Chelsea beat the Reds to their man by securing a £54m deal for the German star.
One particularly angry Liverpool supporter has commented that anyone who thinks Minamino is good enough “is deluded”. Since his arrival in January, the 25-year-old has made just four Premier League appearances and hasn’t contributed to a goal in red yet (via Transfermarkt).
