Liverpool: Fans slam Reds interest in Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool have been linked to plenty of big names as the transfer window approaches, but nothing has materialised as of yet.

The Reds were in the running to sign RB Leizpig striker Timo Werner but he opted to join Premier League rivals Chelsea instead.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the goalless Merseyside derby, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher urged Jurgen Klopp to bring in fresh players in the summer.

In what year did Liverpool sign Jordan Henderson?

Now, according to Sport Bild, as per @LFCTransferRoom, Klopp is a big fan of Thiago Alcantara and is interested in signing the Bayern Munich midfielder.

Alcantara is reportedly considering his future at the Allianz Arena and is ready to embark on a new challenge in his career.

Klopp has openly admitted he admires the Spaniard in the past. Indeed, he claimed that the Bayern dynamo and Naby Keita were the two best players in the Bundesliga (Daily Express).

Keita’s future at the Kop is in doubt and Alcantara may be the perfect replacement. His current deal with the German champions is set to expire in 2021 and Bayern are demanding €50m, which equates to £45m, for the Spanish international.

However, Liverpool were unwilling to spend almost £100m in transfer fees and wages for Werner, and the club may baulk at the midfielder’s wages, which are reportedly worth £207,000-a-week. Moreover, his injury history is pretty bleak.

Unsurprisingly, many LFC fans slammed the club’s “terrible” interest in Alcantara, with one supporter dismissing the report as “nonsense,” and another unfairly insisting “we’re broke,” – perhaps because of the whole saga with Werner.

We buy below true value. For a 29yr old that’s for ‘free’. More likely we promote 4/5 youth players (Elliot, Larouci, Williams, Brewster, Jones, Gujic) and sign one first team player this summer. Expect 4 or more players to go (inc Shaq, Lallana, Lovren, Wilson, Lonergan, Kauris)

That would be a terrible idea. He cant add any value to the LFC middlefield. We need Yaya Toure type of player, not another fancy foot.
