Liverpool: Fans speculate over Dejan Lovren contract extension talks

Liverpool will reportedly activate Dejan Lovren’s automatic contract extension, which will tie him to the club until 2022.

However, despite extending his deal, the Merseyside outfit are looking to offload him this summer, according to Neil Jones.

Since the arrival of Virgil van Dijk and impressive performances from both Joel Matip and Joe Gomez, Lovren has fallen drastically down the pecking order. The Croatian has been limited to just ten Premier League appearances this season, with only eight being starts (via Transfermarkt).

As a result of his irregular playing time, Lovren is reportedly ready to start the next chapter in his career away from Anfield. The 31-year-old is looking to be a regular starter for his team and that’s something Liverpool are unlikely to be able to provide for him.

Loads of Liverpool fans are speculating over what this contract extension could mean for business, with one tweeting ‘If we can get £10million then Edwards has done it again’. Lovren’s current Transfermarkt value is £14.4m, but with many fans eager to see him leave the club, it’s likely they will take any sum to get him off the books.
