Liverpool: Fans want to face Real Madrid in the next round of the Champions League

Liverpool fans have been reacting to the news that they could face Real Madrid in the Champions League after advancing to the last 16 of the competition on Tuesday.

A 2-0 win against RB Salzburg at the Red Bull Arena sent the Reds through as group winners, finishing above Italian side Napoli.

The Merseyside club could have gone out of the tournament if they were beaten in Austria, with Jurgen Klopp stressing the importance of the game beforehand by describing it as “like a final“.

The Stuttgart-born coach got his message across to his players, who did what was asked as they were triumphant in Wals-Siezenheim.

As a result, Liverpool fans have been having a look at the potential opposition for the next stage, with them unable to play any teams from the Premier League until the quarter-final stage.

In 2018, Liverpool fell to Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League final after two blunders from goalkeeper Loris Karius cost them the game, with fans wanting revenge for that forgetful night in Eastern Europe.

Supporters were hoping that the club would draw against the side from the Spanish capital and made their feelings clear on social media.
