Liverpool are ‘having conversations’ to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes this summer, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Long-standing interest

The Portugal international only arrived in the Premier League back in August 2022 when he put pen to paper on a club-record deal at Molineux, but after making an instant impact in the Midlands, has once again caught the eye of one potential suitor in particular.

The Reds were reportedly monitoring the 24-year-old before he joined the Old Gold so are clearly long-term admirers of the player, and it appears that Jurgen Klopp is now planning to act on his interest later this year.

The Latest: Liverpool discussing Nunes deal

Speaking to YouTube channel Born and Red, Romano confirmed that Liverpool and Nunes are currently discussing the possibility of a move in the next window. As quoted by Rousing The Kop, he said:

“I think this is a serious possibility. So Matheus Nunes is a name, for sure, and Liverpool already wanted him before he joined Wolves. He knew about Liverpool’s interest, so they’ve always been around the player.

“I think it’s a possibility, for him to join Liverpool. I would not say a done deal but for sure they’re having conversations on the player’s side, on the club’s side. So Liverpool want Matheus Nunes and Jude Bellingham.

“Let’s see if they’re able to bring in both of them but this is the plan for the club.”

The Verdict: Nunes and Bellingham

Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham, as Romano stated above, is said to be a priority midfield target this summer, and Nunes could be set to follow in his footsteps and make the move to Anfield.

The Rio de Janeiro native currently averages 1.7 tackles and 1.2 shots per league game, highlighting his ability to impact the game at both ends of the pitch, not to mention he also has a man of the match award to his name (WhoScored).

Nunes has been dubbed a ‘baller’ by journalist Aadam Patel, and it would be a massive coup for Liverpool should they be able to agree a move for both the Wolves talisman and Bellingham in the months ahead.
