Liverpool: Divock Origi close to sealing AC Milan move -Liverpool News

Liverpool forward Divock Origi is closing in on an Anfield exit and could be set to fly to Milan as early as next week to finalise his move to Serie A, according to an Italian source.

The Lowdown: Origi’s Anfield goodbye

The Belgian bid his final goodbye to the Reds last weekend after it was confirmed that he would be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract. He was given a standing ovation and a guard of honour on the pitch post-match following the Merseysiders’ 3-1 victory over Wolves at Anfield on the last day of the Premier League season.

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool for some time now, with it long being known that AC Milan are leading the race for his signature. Following a fresh update, it looks as though Stefano Pioli’s side have almost got the deal over the line.

The Latest: Medical on the cards

In an article published by Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport (via Sport Witness), it’s claimed that Origi will be the ‘first purchase’ that Milan make this summer; and although a move is ‘yet to be wrapped up’, the Serie A champions remain ‘at the front of the queue’ to secure his services.

The report claimed that the 32-cap Belgium international has admitted that he wants to ‘close his relationship’ with Liverpool and wait until after the Champions League final on Saturday before completing the necessary tasks to confirm his move abroad.

It is said that he could ‘land in Milan’ after that time to undergo his medical in the hope of signing a new four-year deal worth €3.5m (£2.9m) per season.

The Verdict: Farewell to a Liverpool icon

Origi’s departure from Liverpool will definitely be a sad one considering the outstanding contribution that he has made at the club since arriving from Lille back in 2014.

The striker, who was once dubbed a “monster” by Jurgen Klopp, has made 175 appearances during his time with the Reds, scoring 41 goals and providing 18 assists, as per Transfermarkt.

He will forever be remembered among Kopites for netting that memorable clincher in the 4-0 Champions League victory against Barcelona all those years ago, while also scoring an unforgettable last-gasp winner in the Merseyside derby against Everton in 2018.

A true Anfield icon, now is the right time for Origi to have a shot at revitalising his career after being a bit-part player at Liverpool this term, and Milan could prove to be the perfect destination to do just that.
