Reliable journalist David Ornstein has provided an update regarding Liverpool’s reported interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Romain Saiss.
Ornstein reveals all
With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez already occupying beds in the treatment room, Fabinho and Joel Matip quickly joined them as both picked up knocks either before, or during the game itself.
This means that manager Jurgen Klopp has no established centre-backs to choose from – with the transfer window due to slam its doors shut on Monday night.
Saiss, who was described as “impeccable” by his compatriot Medhi Benatia (cited by Goal), has been in and out of the Wolves side this season after starting only 14 games, but he has managed to score three goals and has averaged 2.4 aerial duels won and 4.4 clearances per game (Whoscored).
On the back of this, Ornstein had the following to say on The Athletic regarding a possible move for the Moroccan centre half.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
We are sure Liverpool will have an extensive shortlist to choose from – if they are serious about bringing in a defender before the 11 pm deadline on Monday.
The Reds will not be fussed about the age of the player, as long as they can bring in a player that can do a competent job from now until the end of the season.
Time is severely against them. They must move quickly if they want to bring in any new faces.
