After partnering Virgil van Dijk against Chelsea, Fabinho has been recognised for his strong defensive performance.
Liverpool fought off their potential Premier League title rivals in a 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. Jurgen Klopp opted to start Fabinho in defence, with Jordan Henderson returning to action in midfield alongside Naby Keita and Gini Wijnaldum.
Should Fabinho partner Virgil Van Dijk at centre-back for Liverpool?
The Brazilian made adapting to his new role look effortless. According to Sofascore, he made four successful tackles, four interceptions and had a 97% passing rate. Fabinho also had five successful long balls out of an attempted eight, which helped keep creativity ticking.
Now, according to James Pearce, Klopp views the 26-year-old as his fourth choice centre-back option. This puts him behind Joe Gomez and Joel Matip but in front of teenager Billy Koutmetio (relayed via @LFCTransferRoom).
Fans seem to be divided over this update, with some worrying it could expose them at the back but others feeling Fabinho is a great choice.
With Pearce claiming the Reds are unlikely to sign a new centre-back, one supporter thinks ‘it’s a huge risk to take’. But another has said ‘I’ve seen this before’ and believes a new signing is on the way. This is likely referencing Liverpool’s long chase for Thiago Alcantara, who finally on Merseyside last week despite hope fizzling out.

I've seen this before. We are signing a Centre Half I'm confident in it. https://t.co/Oz15EUalYc

I think the combo of Fabinho and VVD was awesome yesterday. They are likely to become our number one pairing now that Thiago has come ine.
