Liverpool could have the chance to sign Tottenham Hotspur superstar Son Heung-Min if his club fails to agree a new deal with the South Korea international, according to one former Premier League striker.
Son on Anfield radar?
Those were the words of the former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor after reports emerged that the North London outfit were about to offer Son a blockbuster deal with a salary of £200,000-a-week at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
With three years left on his current deal, there has yet to be an official announcement regarding his long-term future.
Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor gushed over Son and believes that his club needs to sort out his contract before Liverpool come knocking.
“Son is the best player in the Premier League, for me, by a country mile,” he said while overlooking Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
“If I was Tottenham, I’d be putting down on a contract on whatever he wants, just to get him signed on because he can go to any club in the world.
“At any club in the world he’d be starting, we’re talking Liverpool, Man City, Real Madrid, Barcelona he’s that good.
“Spurs will know that, Jose will know that, Daniel Levy will know that so I’m sure they’ll tie him down and he’ll be one of the highest earners for sure.”
Transfer Tavern take
Liverpool fans will be delighted if Spurs’ club hero opted to make the switch to Anfield, but it looks unlikely that such a move would happen anytime soon.
Jurgen Klopp has plenty of options at his disposal and with the immediate impact that Diogo Jota has had, he could be a long-term option for them.
That being said, it is expected that Son would commit his future to Tottenham but even if he did decide to leave, he might prove to be too expensive for the Merseysiders to consider.
