Liverpool in surprise swoop for Tottenham ace?

rose.jpgThere are a few whispers around the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon that Liverpool are set to reignite their interest in Tottenham left back and Sunderland loanee Danny Rose.

Mail Online reports that the England Under-21 has impressed Brendan Rodgers during his loan spell at Sunderland this season and the former Swansea City manager is ready to revisit his interest in signing Rose this summer.

However Liverpool will face competition from Black Cats manager Paolo Di Canio who is also interested in bringing the 22-year-old back to the Stadium of Light in a permanent move. Rose recently admitted that he would be open to a permanent switch if the two clubs can thrash out a deal after the club ensured Premier League football again.

Rodgers will be under pressure to deliver at Anfield next year but could have to lose Stewart Downing, Andy Carroll, Jose Enrique and Pepe Reina to help balance the books to make his reported £20 million budget stretch.

While back in London Andre Villas-Boas may see Rose as an alternative for the left back berth at White Hart Lane with the option of selling long serving defender Benoit Assou-Ekotoo this summer.

Will Rose become a Red for next season? Rate this rumour below.
