Liverpool have set their sights on moving for Vitesse left-back Max Clark as cover for Andy Robertson, according to Football Insider.
The former Hull City defender has been impressive since his move across the North Sea and into the Netherlands in 2018 and has became renowned for his crossing ability.
The 23-year-old was added to Sky Sports‘ most promising young players across Europe after creating three assists in the Eredivisie for Vitesse this season.
According to the Mirror, the Dutch club are expecting bids for the England U23 international in January with his contract set to expire in 18 months.
Clark made 30 appearances for Hull in all competitions before he made the move to Europe after his contract expired with the Tigers.
This season, he has one goal to his name in 19 showings for Vitesse and continues to impress, and it is easy to see why.
He has a stunning defensive record, averaging 3.9 tackles and 2.6 clearances per game, which justifies why Clark is picked regularly for the Arnhem based-outfit, as per Whoscored.
And proving to be useful in the final third, he has the vision that would prove to be useful in Klopp’s team, with Whoscored recording an average of 3.4 successful long balls and 1.6 key passes.
Since the departure of Alberto Moreno to Villareal last summer, it has left the Stuttgart-born coach with a dilemma. Having played the likes of James Milner in Robertson’s place, it is not an ideal scenario for the long term future of the squad, and although the Scotland international has a massive engine he absolutely needs an able deputy.
Clark could therefore be a useful asset going forward. With age on his side and an eye for a pass, he has the chance to become a tailor-made Klopp full-back, following Robertson’s footsteps from the KCOM Stadium to Anfield.
