Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern will certainly be satisfied with the way things are going for their team in the Premier League right now.

They currently sit in third position in the table, only behind Tottenham on goal difference and seven points behind the leaders Chelsea.

However, the Reds have lost a bit of pace with the leaders as they are yet to win in two attempts in the top flight – and four attempts in all competitions – in 2017, including their 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday which would have frustrated the Reds fans standing at the bar.

While Jurgen Klopp won’t be too worried about losing any of his first team stars to other European clubs, he will be slightly wary that the likes of Chelsea’s Diego Costa is being linked with a big-money move to China – something the tavern landlord would be keen to see happen right now!

Here are TWO things that Liverpool must be fearful could happen during the January transfer window…

Mamadou Sakho’s high asking price

It is clear that Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp don’t want the Frenchman after he was sent home from their pre-season tour during the summer and made to train with the Under-23 side, but their £20m valuation of the centre-back could come back to bite them with the punters standing at the bar keen to get rid.

With the club wanting him out and the France international wanting to play regular first team football, to ask for £2m more than they paid for him will unlikely persuade the likes of Southampton – who have been linked with the 26-year-old this month – to part with their cash, and even the landlord is thinking that the asking price has to drop!

Failure to get rid of Sakho during this window could stop Klopp bringing in a replacement, and with fitness concerns over Joel Matip in recent weeks, it is a position that the German boss looks to need more competition and depth in.

Player bids from China

With one of the Premier League’s star players – Diego Costa – being heavily linked with a move to China where he could earn big bucks, it seems no-one in the English top flight is safe any more from the Super League – something that has been the talk of the tavern in recent weeks.

The Merseyside outfit and manager Jurgen Klopp will be fearful of receiving bids for the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Firmino that could be too good to turn down – or could turn the player’s head this month or next – which will be a slight concern for the punters at the bar.

With the Reds chasing their first-ever Premier League title this term, the German boss will want to keep his current squad together, and the landlord will demand that any bid received is ignored or chucked straight in the log fire!
