Serie A giants Inter Milan have made a move for Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino, according to a new transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Firmino’s future unclear

The Brazilian is an undisputed modern great at Anfield, having registered 185 goal contributions (107 goals and 78 assists) in 349 appearances, as well as winning seven trophies.

Firmino has often been the understated glue that has held Liverpool together, linking the midfield and attack to perfection, while seven Premier League goals have come his way this season despite missing some time recently through injury.

The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the current campaign, and it remains to be seen if he will extend his stay at the club or not.

The Latest: Inter keen on signing Brazilian

According to Gazzetta dello Sport [via Sport Witness], ‘contacts have started’ between Inter and Firmino regarding a potential summer move to Italy.

The attacker has ‘all the requisites’ to join the Nerazzurri, although the report does state that it is ‘not an easy negotiation’ due to the wages on demand.

The Verdict: Keep hold of him

Firmino isn’t quite the footballer he was a few years ago, having gone from being one of the first names on the team sheet to more of a squad player, but he still possesses lots of quality and is useful to have around with the ability to operate in multiple forward positions.

For that reason, Liverpool should do all they can to keep the 55-cap Brazil international on a short-term contract, allowing Jurgen Klopp to retain strong depth in attack.

The manager himself has described Firmino as a ‘world-class’ player, and while some may think getting his £180,000-a-week off the wage bill is a good thing, the positives outweigh the negatives in terms of keeping him.

He is now back fit again and has a great chance to prove his worth – he is Liverpool’s joint-second top scorer in the league this season – and some strong performances between and May should further convince the club to keep him on.
