Roberto Firmino linked with Juventus

Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino has been linked with a move to Juventus in the summer transfer window as the Serie A giants eye up his signature.

The Brazilian has been one of the biggest heroes of the Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield, leading the line in wonderful fashion and becoming a true modern-day Reds great, working tirelessly for the team and often sacrificing his goal threat to benefit Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane with his link-up play.

Even still, Firmino has scored 98 goals in 327 appearances for Liverpool, not to mention registering 74 assists and winning six trophies during his time at the club.

However, the 30-year-old’s current deal expires next summer, and an exit rumour has now emerged.

The Latest: Juventus eye up Firmino

According to Tutto Juve [via Sport Witness], Juventus are believed to have ‘presented a formal offer’ of €23m (£19.5m) for Firmino’s services as they weigh up a summer move for the Brazil.

It isn’t stated whether or not the striker’s head would be turned by their interest, although the report did mention that the apparent approach has ‘generated doubts’ in Liverpool owners FSG, which suggests that they could be persuaded to sell the player.

The Verdict: Surely he doesn’t leave?

It would be a huge shock if Firmino departs this summer, with the Brazil international enjoying a good pre-season and looking like he will have a key part to play in 2022/23.

There is an argument to say that his very best days are behind him, given that his goal return has diminished over the past few years.

However, he has been hailed as ‘world-class’ by Jurgen Klopp in the past and still has so much to offer complementing Liverpool’s other attacking options with his selfless style.

Hopefully Firmino signs a contract extension in the near future, with the thought of losing him for free in 2023 a sad one, especially with his fitness levels meaning that he should be able to go on as a squad player at least for some time.
