Liverpool prepared to break British transfer record to bring “superb” Newcastle star to Anfield

Fresh off their second Premier League title and the successful debut season of Arne Slot, Liverpool are showing no signs of slowing down. The summer rebuild is in full swing—and it’s ambitious.

Even with the emotional departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, the club’s intent is clear: evolve, not regress.

Slot’s first major signing is Jeremie Frimpong, the electric Dutch wing-back from Bayer Leverkusen. Known for his pace, creativity, and relentless energy, Frimpong steps in as a direct replacement for Trent — a bold but fitting move. On the opposite flank, Liverpool are close to sealing a deal for Milos Kerkez, the highly rated Hungarian left-back from Bournemouth.

But the real headline is Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool are closing in on a record-breaking transfer for the German playmaker, with the fee expected to approach £116 million. Wirtz, who orchestrated Bayer Leverkusen’s historic 2023/24 Bundesliga triumph, is widely seen as one of Europe’s brightest young stars. Small in stature but huge in influence, he combines sharp technical ability with vision, control, and a knack for big moments.

City midfielder—and international teammate—Ilkay Gündoğan recently summed up the hype: “He could be the best in the world in a short amount of time.”

If Liverpool get this over the line, they’re not just replacing stars—they’re building something even bigger.

But Liverpool’s shopping list may stretch even further.

GIVEMESPORT reports that Anfield’s hierarchy are ready to smash their newly‑set transfer record a second time by launching a package worth £100 million plus add‑ons for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak—a deal that would eclipse the anticipated outlay on Florian Wirtz and push the fee beyond the current British benchmark of £106.8 million (Enzo Fernández to Chelsea, 2023).

Isak’s credentials hardly need embellishment. The Swedish forward hit 23 Premier League goals last term—second only in the Golden Boot race—and drew glowing praise from record scorer Alan Shearer, who hailed his “superb runs,” “cool confidence,” and “top‑notch all‑round game.”

Sources cited by GIVEMESPORT describe Isak as Liverpool’s “dream target” to spearhead a refreshed front line, with the club now sounding out whether Newcastle would entertain a sale after such a prolific year at St James’ Park.

Should the Reds pull it off, Arne Slot’s first summer in charge could go down as one of the most audacious rebuilds in modern club history—and might place a third Premier League crown firmly within reach.
