Liverpool: Fans beg for Ibrahima Konate signing after promising claims

After various claims linking Liverpool with RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, plenty of Reds have pleaded with FSG to get a deal done for the centre-back.

Long-term absences for central defensive trio Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez prompted Liverpool into an emergency January transfer rescue mission, with the Reds signing both Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak on deadline day.

Should Liverpool sign Konate?

Liverpool have been associated with Bundesliga colossus Konate, with various claims linking the Reds with him over the last week days.

First, the Liverpool Echo relayed journalist Guido Schafer’s comments, with the reporter explaining that Konate would ‘say yes’ if asked to join Liverpool in the summer. Another journalist’s claim soon followed, as Kevin Palmer explained that the 21-year-old defender is emerging as a key target for Jurgen Klopp.

Reacting to these rumours, it’s safe to say that plenty of Liverpool fans are excited, with one believing he would be a ‘great signing’ despite his unenviable injury record.

There is a strong case for signing him, however, especially considering the Bundesliga season he enjoyed two years ago.

He averaged an impressive 2.1 interceptions and 4.3 clearances per match over 27 league starts during 2018/19 (WhoScored), and if he can stave off further injury issues, Konate could indeed be a fine acquisition with plenty of years ahead of him.
