Liverpool: Reds boosted as Fabinho returns to training complex

Liverpool received a colossal boost to their squad after midfielder Fabinho appeared to make his return to training.

The 27-year-old picked up a hamstring injury during their 2-0 victory against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League, which added to their defensive crisis.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have both been ruled out with long-term knee injuries, which leaves Joel Matip as the club’s only established centre-back that is available for selection.

Youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips have been utilised by manager Jurgen Klopp in recent weeks during Fabinho’s absence.

But the Brazilian midfielder posted a picture on Instagram pulling up at the club’s new Kirkby training complex, which suggests that he could be joining the rest of his teammates in morning sessions.

Fabinho, who former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand described as a “top operator” (cited by the Metro), could line up alongside Matip at the heart of the Liverpool defence when the Reds take on Leicester City after the international break,

If Fabinho is back to full fitness, this will be a seismic boost for Liverpool fans and for Klopp. The Reds have been extremely unlucky when it has come to the fitness of their best players in recent weeks.

But having Fabinho at the back will breed confidence throughout the whole squad, having previously impressed against Chelsea in that position earlier in the season.

But if he is absent, then the Merseysiders will have a tough time keeping the likes of Jamie Vardy and James Maddison quiet.
