A number of Liverpool fans have been venting their frustrations over Carlo Ancelotti’s comments hinting that pressure building up since the Merseyside derby led to Lucas Digne’s red card against Southampton
Everton suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season at Southampton on Sunday losing 2-0. The day got even worse for the Toffees in the final 18 minutes as Digne received a straight red card after catching Kyle Walker-Peters with a nasty looking challenge.

After the game, though, Ancelotti was left angry over the red card describing it as a ‘joke’. The Italian then went on to suggest that pressure that built up over the week following Jordan Pickford’s horrible challenge on Virgil van Dijk, that went unpunished in the Merseyside derby, could have led to the sending off at St Mary’s.
Van Dijk is facing a lengthy spell out through injury after Pickford’s challenge on him in the 2-2 draw between the two sides at Goodison Park. The England keeper has gone unpunished for that challenge, which has generated a lot of controversy and criticism.
Liverpool fans react to comments from Carlo Ancelotti
Many Liverpool fans were quick to hammer Ancelotti for his views on Digne’s red card, with many in agreement that it was a certain sending off. While others pointed out the irony of the situation after Pickford should have been sent off last time out against the Reds.

Pathetic from Carlo. He’s losing his head because he knows this is the start of a spiral towards a battle for the mid table places

Carlo has always been classy. Always respected him. Still do. A week won’t change that. But he has seen 3 of his players make dangerous potentially damaging tackles in 2 games. He needs to recognise that and deal with it rather than making excuses for it. Bad form.

Richarlison was rightly sent off and Pickford was lucky to be even playing today as he should also have been sent off, Carlo has lost the plot
