Liverpool are set to bid for Bordeaux attacker Francois Kamano with under two weeks of the transfer window left to go.
CalcioMercato report that the Reds are readying a €15 million (£13.52 million) bid for the 23-year-old winger as Jurgen Klopp aims to improve his side’s attacking options in the final third.
Liverpool have been one of the quietest sides in the transfer window this summer out of the teams in the English top-flight, bringing in just two players, Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle and more recently Harvey Elliott from Fulham, resulting in the Reds spending the least amount of money so far out of any club in the Premier League (per Transfermarkt).
Kamano enjoyed a fairly successful season last time out with Bordeaux in Ligue 1 as the Guinea international hit 10 goals in the French top-flight (per Transfermarkt). Although the attacker mainly plays out on the left-wing, the 23-year-old can play on the right as positional stats from Transfermarkt show.
Indeed, this versatility could be a reason as to why Liverpool have been linked with a move for Kamano, with popular fan sites such as This Is Anfield and Anfield Index both claiming that the club are in for a fourth attacker this summer, and the Bordeaux man could be an ideal solution. Furthermore, the Daily Mail suggested back in May that the Reds were eager to bring in a versatile forward to complement their current options.
Comparing Kamano to the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri with stats from WhoScored, it paints a clear picture that the Ligue 1 winger was the more standout player from last season on the pitch.
The Bordeaux attacker registered more shots per game than both Origi and Shaqiri at 2.2 compared to 1.1 and 1.1, as well as averaging more key passes per game at 0.9 compared to 0.3 and 0.8. Kamano also outscored both Liverpool players with 10 goals compared to 3 and 6 for last season.
With Liverpool seemingly in the hunt for a new attacking option this summer, Kamano could prove to be a cheap and useful option for the Reds based on how the winger fared last season compared to Klopp’s two backup attackers, as well as the Guinea international’s versatility in the front line.
The Reds have been largely inactive in the transfer market this summer, but the potential signing of Kamano could be a flashpoint for supporters, who have been deprived of any big-name incomings.
