Liverpool should try and go for this Premier League star if their van Dijk chase fails

The latest big fixture in the Premier League is just hours away now as Liverpool take on Arsenal at Anfield later this afternoon and here in the Transfer Tavern we cannot wait.

The fixture between the two has yielded plenty of goals over the years and though it is early in the season, there’s plenty riding on it as the pair look to really build some momentum.

Certainly, in this installment of this fixture there is surely going to be chances with neither side having particularly strong defences and that is why we think both need to sign a new centre-half.

Focusing on Liverpool, then, we all know about the Virgil van Dijk scenario but it is certainly plausible that the Dutchman isn’t going to turn up at Anfield this summer.

The Reds, then, need a contingency plan and it could just come in the form of Jonny Evans of West Brom.

Of course, we all know about his Manchester United days but it’s not like it’s a Paul Scholes or Ryan Giggs suddenly playing at Anfield – there shouldn’t be too much of an issue.

Indeed, the West Brom man has proven himself a truly solid defender in the Premier League with him doing the basics very well and that is what Liverpool need.

And, if he helped them finally win a league title we’re pretty sure those United ties would be forgotten in an instance.
