Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are still in jubilant mood after Monday night’s result against Everton.

Beating one of your fiercest rivals on their own patch in the closing minutes of the game is always something to be savoured and here by the bar the Reds certainly did that.

It was the kind of moment that suggested they could challenge Chelsea for the Premier League crown but with plenty more time to go this season lots of work still needs to be done.

Indeed, the January transfer window will offer such an opportunity for work to be done and squads to be improved with Football Whispers reporting Kasper Schmeichel could be on his way to Anfield from Leicester City.

It’s a potential move our landlord thinks would be brilliant for the Reds as they look to win the league this season and here are the two reasons to explain exactly why…

Commanding presence

The Danish stopper is a real leader on the pitch and showed exactly what he could do with Leicester last season.

He commands his area well and is more than happy in a one on one situation with even the best in the business. Liverpool have lacked such a presence for some time with both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius having their shaky moments and so signing the former Manchester City youngster could help solve that.

Title winner

Perhaps most crucially for Liverpool this season, though, is the fact that Schmeichel knows how to win a title.

That experience of winning the Premier League is vital to help teams do it over and over again and right now the Reds have very little title winning nous out on the pitch. A few of their players have but many haven’t and so bringing in the Foxes ‘keeper in January could prove to be that pivotal boost to see them win the league this year.
