Liverpool striker staying put, says Rodgers

Liverpool fans were left anxious last week in the Football Transfer Tavern when a rumour linking Luis Suarez with a move to Bayern Munich was revealed, although Brendan Rodgers is adamant his main man is going nowhere, according to Andy Hampson of the Daily Mail.

The Uruguayan international is enjoying a spectacular season on Merseyside, and netted his 20th strike of the season during last weekend’s 5-0 thumping of Norwich City.

His form, and Liverpool’s absence from the Champions League has prompted rumours of a £40 million bid from some of Europe’s top clubs, with Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola reportedly a big admirer of the forward.

But Rodgers has reaffirmed his desire to keep the controversial forward at the club for the long-term.

Rodgers said: “Luis had a terrific season last season and he had an opportunity to leave in the summer, and probably would have had a ready-made excuse with a new manager coming in, but he never did.

“He committed to the club. He sees the vision going forward, and he believes in that.

“He knows it won’t happen overnight. He has had a brilliant season with 20 goals until now, and hopefully there are many more to come.”

Suarez signed a long-term contract at the club in the summer, and has often spoke of his happiness at Liverpool.

They will no doubt need their main man to be at his brilliant best for this weekend’s FA Cup tie at Oldham Athletic and upcoming Premier League away days at Arsenal and Manchester City.

Rodgers knows his side go into these games on good form, and is determined to continue that decent run. He said: “When you are a club like this you are judged on your trophies, and we want to improve in the league as well.”
