Liverpool’s transfer policy has changed over the last year or two, and it’s certainly been for the better. Gone are the days of quantity over quality, and that have been replaced by the focus on securing some of the best talent in Europe instead.
The likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have moved to Anfield in recent years, and that’s been very good for the Reds, as their form has improved alongside that.
Certainly, a move for Alisson would be one of huge potential for Liverpool, and he would be an upgrade on Jurgen Klopp’s current options – but is he the best man for the job?
After all, he lacks Premier League experience, and in truth, he’s only really had one season of genuinely world-class form.
Perhaps, then, Liverpool should target 1 of these 2 players instead…
A move for Keylor Navas would come as a shock, but it does make some sense.
Thibaut Courtois is apparently on his way to Spain to join Real Madrid, and that could leave the future of Navas uncertain.
The Costa Rican isn’t likely to accept being a bit-part player at the club, and so perhaps the Reds could take advantage of his situation.
He would come with years of experience.
Jack Butland would be an obvious choice for Liverpool.
He was one of the better-performing goalkeepers in the Premier League last season, despite his side’s relegation, with the Englishman one of few players in the Stoke City squad that didn’t ruin his reputation.
At 25-years-old, he would be a long-term solution for the Reds, whilst he’d also likely be available more cheaply than Alisson.
The Englishman isn’t quite as well-known as Liverpool’s Brazilian target, but nonetheless, it’s a move that makes sense. Not to mention, it would help improve Liverpool’s homegrown contingent.
