Liverpool look set to be wearing Nike kits from next season after the club won a High Court case involving existing kit supplier New Balance.
The Liverpool Echo reported that the Anfield club had aimed to end their association with New Balance once the manufacturer’s current contract expires at the end of this season, only for the latter to file a claim in the High Court, insisting that they had had activated a matching clause in the contract which would oblige Liverpool to renew their partnership.
However, the club managed to convince judge Mr Justice Nigel Teare to rule in their favour, with Liverpool claiming that New Balance, whose deal is worth around £40m a year to the club (as per BBC), could not match Nike’s offer in relation to the marketing and distribution of club products. The Merseysiders now appear set to commence a five-year partnership with Nike from next summer, according to the Liverpool Echo, with Sky News reporting that the deal will be worth a total of £150m (£30m per year) to the Champions League holders.
