With the distraction of the summer World Cup, fans up and down the country did wonder what kind of transfer window the Premier League and Liverpool would have this season with preparations hugely compressed, and some England players not even returning to training until about a week before the big kick off.
A few high profile and big money deals did go through such as Elliot Anderson’s switch from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City, but otherwise it was pretty quiet by the windows own standards. That all ended as attentions turned back to real football and although Aston Villa’s sale of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea sits top of the headlines right now, with Deadline Day nearing Enzo Fernandez’s ‘on off’ move from Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium could still blow all other deals out of the water with a fee of £120 million still being talked about.
There have been plenty of deals to whet the appetite, particularly those who use the best betting sites to have a flutter on transfer action, and all clubs have got themselves involved to one degree or another given the cash that exists in some clubs’ coffers. Amongst those clubs are Liverpool, and it very much seems that they are not quite done yet as their board continue last season’s big money expenditure, but this time for new manager Andoni Iraola.
Already just shy of the £100 million mark for the summer having spent big on Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet, the transfer window speculation rumour mill has picked up an extra gear over the course of the last week. Not only is it now better expected that French and Paris Saint-Germain talent Bradley Barcola will soon be on his way to Anfield after negotiations have seemingly now produced a fee that would be acceptable to both parties (in excess of £100 million on the low side), having seen a final £60 million offer rejected by Brighton and Hove Albion for Yankuba Minteh rejected, they have pivoted quickly.
It is now claimed that their attentions have swiftly turned to Crystal Palace talent Ismaila Sarr. The 28 year old, 88 capped Senegal international, more than ticks the versatile attacker options that their new manager is looking for and although he is predominantly a right sided winger, he still found the back of the net 21 times for current club Crystal Palace across all competitions last season.
Palace however, are not willing sellers and only a week or so ago the Selhurst Park outlet completely rebuffed any attempts from Galatasaray to get negotiations underway for him. Both clubs at this stage have publicly denied that a bid has been formally made, however the BBC are one of a number to point out that close sources had revealed contact long before the denials came. Even new manager Pierre Sage also seemed to contradict the official line by stating ‘…to have this type of contact is difficult…’ – but it is also fair to say that may have been language barrier confusion, or simply he was trying to give a diplomatic, but general, answer to a direct question.
It is a deal that is very much worth watching though with under a week to go.
