Premier League champions Liverpool have recently been linked with a move for Inter defender Stefan de Vrij.
Reds make contact for Dutch De Vrij
A report from Inter-oriented outlet FCInterNews has stated that Liverpool have contacted Mino Raiola in an attempt to sign De Vrij in the future. Apart from them, Manchester United have also made contact for the Dutch central defender.

The report states that while contact as been made, De Vrij is ready to sign a new deal at the Nerazzurri and that new contract will make him one of the highest earners at the club – only behind Christian Eriksen and Romelu Lukaku.
Despite Liverpool’s interest over the last few months, the foundations of a new contract were laid some weeks ago in a meeting involving Inter and De Vrij’s entourage. Currently 28, De Vrij has previously been compared to Leonardo Bonucci by Antonio Conte.
De Vrij would’ve been a fine signing for Liverpool
De Vrij was a regular for Inter in the 2019/20 campaign and he had made 34 Serie A appearances, while picking up a rating of 6.92. As a result of his performances, only nine players had picked up better ratings than the Dutchman in Serie A for Inter last season (as per Whoscored).

This shows that De Vrij indeed is a reliable defender and would’ve added quality and depth to the Liverpool backline. With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out injured right now, Jurgen Klopp’s men would need a central defender to have more senior options for the position and De Vrij is someone who would’ve fixed the issue.
