talkSPORT and reporter Alex Crook have shared an update on Liverpool, Wolves and rumoured transfer target Ruben Neves.

The Lowdown: Reds in the running…

Jurgen Klopp’s side are thought to be keeping tabs on the Portugal international as the Premier League giants seek to upgrade their midfield options.

Borussia Dortmund superstar Jude Bellingham is thought to be Liverpool’s top target for the role but Neves, who has played a starring role at Wolves in recent years, has also been a name mentioned in the press.

Liverpool are currently some way off the league’s big-hitters and could need new signings this year if they’re to rejuvenate Klopp’s squad and become serious contenders again.

The Latest: Wolves ‘preparing’ for Neves exit…

According to talkSPORT, as shared by their reporter Crook, the 25-year-old is ‘on the radar’ of both Liverpool and Spanish giants Barcelona.

It’s added that, in a possible boost for the Reds, that Wolves are ‘preparing themselves’ for the departure of Neves at the end of this season.

Neves has entered the final 18 months of his deal at Molineux, putting pressure on the Old Gold to sell in the next few windows or risk losing him for nothing.

The Verdict: Make the move…

Neves would be a real coup for Liverpool depending on the asking price and one who could add both quality and steal to Klopp’s midfield.

Liverpool’s head coach has already waxed lyrical over the Wolves star as a player who ‘changes everything’ and he could be far more attainable than in 2018.

A report from reliable newspaper The Times claimed Wolves were asking for around £110 million to ward off suitors, but with deal set to expire in 2024, they’re hardly in a position to demand a similar fee this time round.

According to WhoScored, Neves stands out as Julen Lopetegui’s best-performing player by average match rating, making more tackles per 90 than anyone in their squad whilst chipping in with four goals going forward.

Indispensable for them, the midfielder Maximilian Kilman and Jose Sa have played more league minutes than Neves over 2022/2023.

Having also been called ‘amazing’ by the latter man, a move for Neves could yield serious results for both Liverpool and Klopp.
