The Daily Mail have managed to put a frown on the faces of Liverpool fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern and considering they were celebrating the end of the working week, that is some going.
The reason for this is the claim that Gonzalo Higuain will not be making a winter switch from Napoli to Merseyside with his brother (who is of course also his agent) claiming he is ‘happy’ in Italy and has no plans to move this season.
Given how badly Liverpool need a prolific forward who can actually put the ball into the back of the net on a regular basis, this represents a huge blow for the Reds and their manager Brendan Rodgers.
However, our more savvy punters think that come the summer, there could well be two notable arrivals from southern Italy with former manager Rafael Benitez eyeing a return to the club on the condition that he can bring Higuain with him.
That may be all well and good come the summer but our regulars make a very good point that in the meantime, the Reds will struggle for goals and subsequent Champions League qualification if something does not change dramatically.
