In our Liverpool Loan Watch feature, the Transfer Tavern takes a look at how a selection of players from the club are doing whilst they are away from their home and provide a brief update regarding their progress.
Harry Wilson
Harry Wilson was loaned out to Bournemouth for the 2019/20 season in early August and the Wales international has made an excellent start to life in the Premier League.
Having never played in the top flight prior to this season, the 22-year-old forward now has three goals in five games following his strike in the Cherries’ 3-1 win at Southampton on Friday night.
He is their second-highest scorer so far this campaign behind Callum Wilson and has averaged more shots per game (2.2) than anyone else in their squad so far this season.
Sheyi Ojo
Rangers signed Sheyi Ojo on loan from Liverpool back in June and the 22-year-old has been in a rich vein of scoring form for the Ibrox club.
His goal against Feyenoord in the Europa League gave his team victory in their opening group stage encounter and took him to five goals in his first 12 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side, already his most prolific season at senior level having scored only once in 13 games so far for his parent club.
The winger also looked likely in Rangers’ 4-0 Premiership win at St Johnstone on Sunday, testing the hosts’ goalkeeper Zander Clark on a few occasions in the first half. [via Sky Sports]
Kamil Grabara
Goalkeeper Kamil Grabara joined Huddersfield on a season-long loan from Liverpool in July but while he has been getting regular game-time, life at the John Smith’s Stadium has not been easy for him.
He has been ever-present in the Championship for the Terriers so far this season but is still waiting on his first clean sheet, while West Brom put four goals past him on Sunday. [via TransferMarkt.co.uk]
The 20-year-old has now conceded 17 goals in eight matches (2.12 per game) and his team fell to the bottom of the Championship following their sixth successive league defeat, having held Manchester United to a draw in the Premier League less than five months ago.
Wilson’s early-season form for Bournemouth shows that he can score regularly in the Premier League, which may have been the key factor preventing Jurgen Klopp from keeping him at Liverpool this season.
Ojo has also made a very positive early-season impact with Rangers and he too has shown that he can make a telling impact on the big stage with his Europa League goal. More of the same should do his chances of getting into Anfield first-team contention no harm.
Grabara has not been doing his Liverpool prospects much good, though, with a feeble concession record and a complete lack of clean sheets at ailing Huddersfield. With Adrian and Andy Lonergan coming in over the summer to join Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher, the Reds are already well-stocked for goalkeepers and the 20-year-old is not putting his best foot forward in trying to prove himself to his parent club.
