Free-spending Liverpool have another transfer target on their minds, at least according to the Express. They’re reporting that Germany man Kerem Demirbay is a key target of Jurgen Klopp, with the boss looking to expand his options in midfield.
A talented midfielder with creativity and vision, Demirbay would certainly add a dose of quality to the midfield at Anfield, but it’s unclear just how Jurgen Klopp is planning to utilise him if he’s able to sign the midfielder.
Of courses, the Reds have so many options in the middle of the park, from Jordan Henderson to Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho to Naby Keita, and so it’s far from easy to figure out where exactly he’d play.
However, the Reds wouldn’t be interested if they didn’t think that he would be able to make an impact, and so Jurgen Klopp evidently will have a plan for him should he get his man.
But what exactly could the boss be thinking?
It’s hard to see past Naby Keita becoming Liverpool’s main man in the midfield long-term. Though he’s had an up and down start to the season, the Guinean’s quality is evident. He’s got so much energy and determination, whilst he’s also a powerful tackler and a decent passer. So, a role at the foot of the defence – though limiting in terms of mobility – could be a good way of getting the most out of his skill on the ball and in the tackle. Fabinho, you’d think, may be a good choice in this role, but the Brazilian’s had a mixed start to life in England, and he’s as of yet unproven at Anfield.
One man that is certainly not unproven at Anfield is Jordan Henderson, The Englishman is the Liverpool captain, and though fans may not love him every week, the Englishman never gives less than 100%, and he has a lot to give this team. His energy and pressing are both crucial traits under Jurgen Klopp, whilst his role as a playmaker is a hugely underrated facet of his playstyle. Rotation is available here, but Henderson is an ideal starting option.
Demirbay makes perfect sense as the more offensively minded option. As mentioned, he’s creative and he’s got a fantastic range of passing, and so a key goal for him will be to produce magic going forward. Setting up the players ahead of him and driving towards goal to make an impact, he’d take up the mantle that Philippe Coutinho left behind, and the mantle that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was beginning to make his own prior to his injury. He’s a lot more physical than those players, though, and so he’ll also add a real presence in the midfield. At 25-years-old, he’s entering the prime of his career, and a move to Anfield could be the making of him.
Offering a great balance of attack and defence, this midfield could serve the Reds well.
