Lukaku reveals exactly what made him stay at Everton

As reported by The Daily Express, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has revealed that a chat with incoming manager Ronald Koeman during the summer convinced him to stay at the club, endearing the former Southampton boss with our resident Toffees fans here in the Transfer Tavern.

The Belgian international was linked with a move away towards the end of last season as his current club finished poorly under Roberto Martinez which duly saw the Spaniard leave.

Then, over the summer that speculation was heightened with Chelsea seemingly particularly keen on bringing him back to Stamford Bridge but the former Saints boss persuaded Lukaku to stick with the Toffees.

The Belgian revealed: “When [Ronald Koeman] called me during the European Championship I told him how I felt. I was surprised how honest he was with me. He was honest in the way that he wanted to work and how he wanted the team to play. He saw me as an important figure and a big character.”

It was that that appeared to make Lukaku want to stay with the Merseysiders and, after a difficult EURO 2016 with Belgium he has found his shooting boots in the Premier League this season once more.

The striker has seven Premier League goals this season and scored as recently as Sunday against West Ham.
