Luke Ayling’s performances have had Leeds fans drooling recently

This has been a funny pre-season for Leeds United. Compared to some of the other top clubs from England the Whites fixtures have been somewhat boring, however, the performances haven’t been boring and Luke Ayling has been one of the club’s stars so far this summer.

It’s not very often that your right-back scores in back-to-back games but that’s exactly what’s happened with Luke Ayling this summer. The 26-year-old defender looks like he’s going to be one of the key players for The Whites this season with Marcelo Bielsa taking a shine to the industrious defender. Ayling’s ability to play as a right-back in a back-four, a wing back and a centre-back in a three make him of high value to Bielsa and it he’s likely one of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment.

The upcoming season will be an interesting one for Leeds. The club are in a strange position seeing as they’ve got one of the best managers in the Championship but are failing to match hat in the strength of their squad. If Bielsa can get this group of players in the way he has done with previous squads in Europe’s top leagues then there’s no reason why he can’t become a Championship winning manager. The form of Ayling will help if that’s to be the case but for now, they’ve got one more friendly against Las Palmas to worry about first.
