Jose Mourinho, as with any manager, has his own unique playstyle. He typically opts for more of a physical group, with reliance on defending and less emphasis on creativity going forward. However, a problem that Man Utd have is that the manager’s style contradicts entirely with the man they’re apparently lining up to potentially replace him.
Zidane, who was most recently manager of Real Madrid, is a very successful manager, having achieved unparalleled success during his time in Spain.
Man Utd’s interest, though, is no surprise – and that should be concerning a few Man Utd first-teamers.
Given Zidane’s differing style, there are a few players that may not fit, and that could mean an inevitable departure if the Frenchman does arrive.
With that said, here are 2 players that wouldn’t survive at Man Utd if Zidane replaced Mourinho…
Chris Smalling is a player that has been riding his luck for a while.
The Englishman has rarely impressed during his time in Manchester, particularly over the last few years.
Unfortunately for him, while Jose Mourinho has put up with his mistakes, Zidane likely wouldn’t.
The Frenchman strives for perfection, and it’s unlikely that he would be able to add to his collection of trophies with the Englishman in the heart of his defence.
Not to mention, his lack of passing and technical ability would make life tough for the Red Devils if they were to build from the back more regularly under Zidane.
He’s been a good servant for the club, but Smalling’s future would be uncertain with Zidane at the helm – even more uncertain that it is right now.
Marouane Fellaini is a player that Jose Mourinho loves, as evidenced by the club’s decision to agree to fresh terms with the Belgian.
However, his role in a team led by Zidane would be far less obvious.
Jose Mourinho tends to offer more of a defensive style, with a reliance on route-one tactics when required – which suits Fellaini perfectly.
However, the Belgian lacks the technical ability and pace to play under a manager like Zidane, and the arrival of the Frenchman could leave him without a role in this squad.
