One of the main debates flying around the Transfer Tavern at the minute is whether or not Manchester United’s season can be deemed a success.

Whilst Jose Mourinho has bought two trophies (and a Community Shield) as well as Champions League football to Old Trafford in his first season in charge of United, many of the Red Devils in the Tavern can’t help but feel that they should have performed better in the league.

In contrast to this, our landlord has been quick to point out that over a sixty game season with some of the injuries that occurred in the United squad – a bunch of trophies is a fantastic return for Mourinho and his men.

However, that’s where our landlord’s positive switch on United’s season ends and he has been very frank in what Mourinho needs to do in order to compete on all fronts next season.

He believes that United need to act quickly in the transfer market and conclude their business early – there is nothing worse than panic buying at the back end of the season, and that will only unsettle the squad when players join in the first few weeks of the new season.

With that said, our landlord has outlined these TWO players that United should make an early move for this summer.

Michael Keane

The former United man has been linked with a £24million return to Old Trafford following an impressive season with Burnley which saw him make his England debut against Germany.

The interest in Keane is only expected to fluctuate and nipping this signing in the bud can allow United to focus on their more complex deals for the majority of the summer – it is believed the deal for Keane would be a straight forward one due to the fact that the centre half is keen to rejoin United.

It is also believes that Jose Mourinho is keen to seal this deal quickly in response to Manchester City’s £43 million signing of Bernardo Silva, which really has shown their rival’s intent for the new season.

Ross Barkley

With Barkley surely destined to join Tottenham this transfer window, our landlord predicts that Mourinho and Ed Woodward may swoop in and snatch the Everton midfielder from under Spurs’ noses in this transfer window.

The reasons for this are simple, Barkley is a physical player who fits the bill of what Mourinho loves to see in a footballer – there is no doubt that he would be a good fit for a United squad that may be looking for alternative options in the attacking midfield area, following the speculation around Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial’s future.

One thing is for sure, if United are to sign Barkley – they need to act quick before anyone else picks up the unsettled Barkley.
