The Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern haven’t had the successful campaign they were guaranteed when the appointment of Pep Guardiola was announced fourteen months ago, with a top four spot being the main priority for the Sky Blues…

A second-placed finish is the best the Premier League 2012 and 2014 champions can hope for but a very competitive run-in for this season and with Tottenham Hotspur on fine form, Guardiola will have to be satisfied with third or fourth place.

Our pub-barman, who happens to be a massive City supporter, has been anticipating the upcoming summer transfer window for all the dealings that may occur at the Etihad, both in and out.

Especially focusing any of the first-team players whose futures’ are in jeopardy, it’ll be particularly interesting to see which of those may end up staying another year or whether the boss thinks it’s most wise for them to move on.

Here are 2 Manchester City players’ futures which are well and truly in limbo this summer….

Fabian Delph

The midfielder has excessively been on the fringes of Pep Guardiola’s squad all season with just over 10 appearances in all competitions, having only scored his first Premier League goal last weekend in the victory against Hull City.

Supporters by the bar argue that if Fabian Delph was utilised more by the gaffer then he would have a more effective impact on the starting eleven but this hasn’t proven to be the case and his future in Manchester is well and truly uncertain.

This is definitely one player that those at the Football Transfer Tavern who will be in two minds about – whether to endure another campaign of being on the fringes or depart the club in the hope of first-team football elsewhere.

Jesus Navas

Jesus Navas has always been one of those players at Manchester City who constantly gets in the matchday squad but never really makes an obvious impact, mainly due to a lack of depth at the Etihad.

The pub landlord argues that it’s good to have these type of fringe players, however, the Spaniard has been a prominent member of the first-team in recent weeks and his usefulness has partly been used by Guardiola.

My worry is that if the boss gets all the targets he demands in the summer then Navas may fall down the pecking order in the right-wing position and the 31-year-old should debate this as his future is currently in limbo with over a month of the season still to go.
