It’s fair to say that our resident Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly awaiting to see what else Pep Guardiola has in store for the club this January.

After a fairly inconsistent first half of the season, our Landlord believes Guardiola will dip into the January market in order to revitalise his squad for the mammoth task that proceeds the second half of the season if they are to be in the title race.

Money has never been an issue for the Citizens, who have the funding of their oil-rich owners, so there really is no limitations on who they could bring in.

Indeed, our landlord believes that some reconstruction work is in order to enable Guardiola to employ his style of football.

As usual, the Tavern talk has been very broad in regards to who the Citizens may sign with many of the fans in the Transfer Tavern having strong views on who and what City need.

So, taking all that into consideration – here are three players that City should snap up next week…

Virgil van Dijk

It was just a month ago van Dijk was pictured in a City shirt but our landlord believes that City fans would be thrilled if this was to become a reality come the end of the month.

A defender comfortable with the ball at his feet, van Dijk should fit right into Guardiola’s tactical plans and joins from a Southampton defence who have only conceded 26 goals so far this season in the league.

Van Dijk could well be expensive but Guardiola needs to harden his defence and he could well be the missing piece to the jigsaw.

Steven N’Zonzi

City have reportedly opened talks with the former Stoke man and with Ilkay Gundogan out for the rest of the season, Fernandinho suspended until February and Fabian Delph falling out of favour at the Etihad – N’Zonzi could well be the answer to a midfield issue that is currently being fixed by playing Pablo Zabeleta.

Our resident City fans are not so sure about N’Zonzi after his underwhelming performances with Blackburn and Stoke in his previous Premier League exploits, but the improvement made in La Liga has been outstanding and he is surely of the quality that City need to rejuvenate their title challenge.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Will City move for Aubameyang and start a merry-go round of strikers being sold among Europe’s big clubs?

With Sergio Aguero blowing hot and cold at City, could Guardiola replace his star man with the Gabonese striker? Aubameyang would likely cost a ton but City must surely believe they can make that up with a sale of Aguero.

Our resident City fans find this rumour to be bitter sweet, on one hand they will gain a world class striker but is it worth it at the expense of a striker who has played such an instrumental part of their recent history?
