Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have endured a season of transition under Pep Guardiola this season but are expecting major changes this summer to make them more of a force next term.
Significant defensive improvements will be a priority for the Citizens, as they seek to replace their ageing full-back options, provide a top-class central defensive partner to John Stones and look to land a new goalkeeper.
One of their priority signings this summer is Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk, who has caught the eyes of many this season with his excelling defensive performances- which hands the Citizens a wealth of competition in the transfer market.
However, The Manchester Evening News states Pep Guardiola holds the triumph card in the battle for Van Dijk’s signature as the Dutch defender is keen to work with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss, which may be decisive in the transfer tussle.
25-year-old Van Dijk fits in well with Manchester City’s philosophy, as Guardiola’s sides have always attacked from the back, and it’s this style that appeals most to Van Dijk.
Our landlord believes this is great news for City, as he feels Van Dijk would be an immense signing for the club and one that could get the best out of John Stones.
