Man City reluctant to move for De Ligt

Manchester City managed to get the better of Chelsea earlier on today which helped them reclaim their place at the top of the Premier League table.

The Citizens have been unstoppable in recent times and look like going all the way in the title race, with Liverpool set to play their game in hand against Manchester United towards the end of this month.

Although, supporters recently received a setback on the transfer front, as according to The Mirror, it is thought that Man City have not approached Ajax about signing De Ligt because of being reluctant to deal with Mino Raiola.

Indeed, the belief in Holland is that English clubs are reluctant to do business with Raiola, which could complicate Manchester City’s potential pursuit of the youngster.

Sadly, Raiola fell out with Pep Guardiola regarding Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s transfer a few years ago, and he labelled Guardiola “a coward and a dog” last year, so City may encounter problems if they decide to make an approach.

And, another problem for the Citizens is that Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool have all watched the defender in the past 12 months, while Barcelona are thought to be keen on signing him and Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have contacted Ajax to make their interest official.

Interestingly, the 19-year-old has been touted as the next Virgil Van Dijk, so it comes as no surprise that City see him as a long-term replacement for Vincent Kompany.

THE VERDICT:

Matthijs De Ligt is one of the most promising defenders in the whole of world football, with the potential to become a future star of the game having already put in a number of world-class performances at Ajax.

But, with a number of clubs also interested and Mino Raiola in the picture, it looks as if City may encounter a number of problems in trying to sign the Dutchman.
