Man City should forget Mbappe and sign one of these two strikers for half the price

The Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern still reckon their side are short of a forward this window.

Kelechi Iheanacho is off to Leicester City, while Sergio Aguero doesn’t appear to be Pep Guardiola’s first choice. It leaves the ex-Barca boss with Gabriel Jesus, who showed great promise last season, though is still a raw talent.

Alexis Sanchez wants to play for Guardiola (Mirror via Telegraph,) but Arsene Wenger and Arsenal appear determined to hang on to the Chilean for at least one more season.

As for Kylian Mbappe – another City target as per The Telegraph – his club Monaco, like Arsenal, are playing hardball. The Ligue 1 champions are reluctant to allow their prodigy to depart after an unexpected summer clear out has crippled their team.

It all means Guardiola will have to look elsewhere to find a goalscorer.

We’ve been debating over who could be Pep’s hitman and think these TWO gems would be perfect for the job…

MAURO ICARDI

The Argentine affirmed his desire to remain an Inter Milan player a few months ago, but that didn’t stop Fabian Delph moving to Manchester City when he said similar about Aston Villa.

Icardi, 24 is arguably Inter’s most valuable asset. He netted 24 times and assisted 8 in Serie A last season. City will have to pay a substantial fee, but it would be less than the silly sum it would take for Mbappe.

DRIES MERTENS

At 30 years of age, it’s a case of now or never for Mertens. The Belgian, seemingly part of a lost generation has taken off in recent seasons.

He signed a new deal in May which makes a deal unlikely, but then again, Luis Suarez did the same at Liverpool. Napoli may be willing to cash in on the second top goal scorer in Serie A last season.
