Man United hold fresh talks for “wonderful” £100m talent

Manchester United’s resurgence under Michael Carrick has them on the brink of Champions League qualification, but behind the scenes, plans are already being put in place for a major summer rebuild.

The Red Devils have been flying since their former midfielder took over from Ruben Amorim in January as interim boss, with seven wins chalked up in nine games.

Their 3-1 win over Aston Villa at the weekend has taken them five points clear of Liverpool in fifth, putting them in a strong position to return to the Champions League next season.

While the future of Carrick’s tenure at Old Trafford remains uncertain, there is no doubt that the club are keen to reassert their dominance both domestically and on the European stage.

United have already made huge strides with the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens and Benjamin Sesko, all of whom have had a significant impact on the improved performances seen in recent months.

However, there is still work to be done to ensure they do not fall from grace again, with the centre of the pitch a key area for reinvestment.

United have been linked with numerous Premier League midfielders over the last few weeks, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes both named as potential targets.

There is a clear desire to find a long-term Casemiro replacement, with the Brazilian’s contract set to expire in the summer, making it vital to future-proof his position.

According to Centre Devils, Man United have entered fresh talks to sign Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba.

The publication have exclusively revealed that the club are stepping up their plans for a summer rebuild and have held new talks over a move for one of their key targets.

United are exploring all of their options, but Baleba remains firmly on their shortlist and has been viewed as a desirable long-term prospect.

It is claimed that talks were held with the midfielder’s representatives last month to reaffirm their interest ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Should Man United sign Carlos Baleba?

There is no doubt that Baleba would be a strong option for United as they look to rebuild their midfield ahead of next season.

However, with a widely reported price tag of £100m, it remains to be seen whether United’s hierarchy would be willing to invest so heavily in one player after years of questionable spending.

The 22-year-old Cameroon international – once hailed as “wonderful” by Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer – boasts strengths in ball interception, dribbling and aerial duels, with the potential to develop into one of the most dominant midfielders in Europe.

While supporters have welcomed the possibility of a new contract for Casemiro, it has been reported that United have no intention of extending his stay at Old Trafford, making the search for the right replacement even more crucial.

Baleba is, of course, still young and much less experienced than Casemiro, but his familiarity with the Premier League and his strong defensive profile make him an understandably attractive option.

In terms of getting the deal done, Brighton are renowned for their shrewd business acumen and tough negotiating stance on player sales.

Combined with United’s clear need for a replacement, the Red Devils may face a difficult task in securing the signing on favourable terms.

With that in mind, a move for Baleba is certainly one to watch for United fans this summer, and it will be interesting to see whether the club act quickly or attempt to negotiate the expected fee down.
