Man United: Fans angered by Mike Dean Manchester derby news

Manchester Evening News revealed Mike Dean will be in charge of the upcoming Manchester derby on Sunday and this latest update has predictably riled plenty of Red Devils fans.

United welcome Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side to Old Trafford this weekend in what will be Dean’s sixth Mancunian derby. Worryingly City have won 4 out of the 5 games the Wirral official has overseen in the past, with United only picking up a win in the League Cup back in 2016.

The English referee is something of a polarising figure in English football and has incurred the wrath of many different fan bases over the years.

Dean has made 312 appearances in the Premier League throughout his career so far, awarding 22 fouls per game and dishing out 3 yellow cards on average overall according to WhoScored.com.

Many United fans will already be anxious as they won’t want to witness a repeat of last season’s home fixture. Although the Red Devils come into the clash with some momentum off the back of a shock 2-1 victory away at the Etihad, they’ll be wary of the attacking threat posed by City.

The Sky Blues have won the past 3 out of 4 derbies hosted at Old Trafford, recently beating United 2-0 in April 2019 (via 11v11).

Here are some of the best reactions to Dean’s appointment…
