Manchester United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern fear for the future of this season’s standout performer.
This is after the Daily Mail revealed that the club are rushing to complete contract talks with David De Gea in order to tie up his future following the signing of fellow Spaniard Victor Valdes.
United’s number one will now be provided competition from Valdes who is his new number two after he signed an 18 month contract with the Red Devils.
Many hope this recent addition to the squad doesn’t push De Gea out of the club because instead of having Anders Lindegaard on bench, he will now have a three-time Champions League winner watching over him from the dugout.
With Valdes now having recovered from injury, it is clear that he has not signed a contract to simply sit on the bench week in, week out and his competitive nature will ensure he pushes De Gea for a starting place.
De Gea may also fear the 12-year relationship that Valdes shares with Louis van Gaal and the goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek which stretches back from his debut at Barcelona.
De Gea has many options should he want to move and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, you can see why the officials at Manchester United are getting a move on to seal his long-term future.
