Manchester United fans are fantasising here in the Football Transfer Tavern as The Mirror seem to think Louis van Gaal has placed a Bundesliga defender at the top of his wishlist amidst a £150 million January spending spree.
The player in question is Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels who as our regulars note, has been linked with a move to the Premier League time and time again.
Now, it seems that as expected, Louis van Gaal is set on strengthening his defence and wants the German to be at the heart of his rebuild.
Given the likes of Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling, Ashley Young and Luke Shaw have all played at the back this season due to injury woes and lack of other options, to bring in a world class central defender would be huge for the Red Devils’ future title prospects.
To capture Hummels would also represent a massive boost going into the second half of the season in the fight for a place in the top four of the Premier League and the quest to bring Champions League football back to Old Trafford.
It would take huge amount of money for Dortmund to part with Hummels and the figure seems to risen dramatically from £32 million to £47 million although to get rid of Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, it could be worth every penny!
