Metro certainly has Manchester United fans looking rather excited here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they appear to be in line to make a huge £90 million move.

The move in question is for Real Madrid star Gareth Bale who has long been linked with United but as one of our regulars notes, it will not only be a massive task to prise him from Real Madrid but they could also do with a defender.

Raphael Varane is the most popular choice in the tavern and we think he could well be available for a fraction of the Bale price.

However according to reports, should Real Madrid manage to land Chelsea’s Eden Hazard in the near future, everything could change.

Whilst United are improving all the time, should they manage to land someone like Bale, it would be a huge coup for them and one that would make a massive difference to their season.

That being said, the main priority for the Red Devils simply has to be strengthening their defence at present.
